Welcome Back to the Aquarena!
After nearly two and a half years of closure, we are excited to welcome the community back to the Aquarena Pool. Our reopening will take place in phases to support a smooth and safe return to aquatic programming.
Facility Improvements
Guests will notice many upgrades throughout the building, enhancing accessibility, comfort, and the overall aquatic experience, including:
- A building extension with gender-inclusive and accessible washrooms, accessible showers, a family change area, and a multipurpose room
- Upgraded accessible showers and stalls in existing change rooms
- New diving platforms and springboards (1m, 3m, 10m)
- LED lighting upgrades and a new digital media display board
- New pool bulkheads and a resealed and repainted pool tank
- Permanent bleachers with accessible access
- New accessible parking and improved facility access
- A new energy-efficient system regulating humidity and temperature on deck
- Upgrades to structural, mechanical, fire protection, and electrical systems
Reopening Schedule
Week 1 | February 2–8
Open to aquatic clubs (St. John’s Legends, Edge Diving Club, St. John’s Sea Stars) and the Seahawks Varsity Swim Team.
Week 2 | February 9–15
- Registration for swimming lessons begins Monday, February 9th
- Lane Swims and Water Fitness Classes
- Student Night Swim (Wednesday, February 11 8-9pm)
- Host site for the 2026 Atlantic University Sport (AUS) Swimming Championship (Friday – Sunday, February 13–15)
Week 3 | February 16 and onward
- Swimming lessons begin
- Public recreation swims
- Student Night Swim (Thursday, February 19 8-9pm)
- Free Public Swim Weekend (Friday – Sunday, February 20–22)
This phased approach allows for a safe and positive experience while we transition to full operation. Please note that program capacities will be limited during this time.
Fitness Centre Update
Please note that the fitness centers and members only changeroom will remain closed due to ongoing renovations. To ensure the safety of our patrons and staff, access will not be permitted until this work is complete. Updates for fitness areas will be shared as timelines become available.

The Works includes the Aquarena (temporarily closed), Field House and other recreation facilities on Memorial University's St. John's Campus.
