Junior Lifeguard Team

The Junior Lifeguard team is for children who have completed our Learn to Swim Bronze and have a keen interest in lifeguarding as a sport and/or profession. Junior Lifeguard Team members work on First Aid, lifesaving skills, physical fitness, leadership and teamwork. Junior lifeguards will practice and complete in obstacle courses, beach flags, beach runs, rescue tube/can relay races, junior ironguard and other lifeguarding sport activities. Junior Lifeguards will learn and master most of the physical skills require for their future Bronze Medallion, bronze Cross and National Lifeguard Service Awards. Requirements are being able to swim at least 25 meters, be comfortable in deep water, wiling to participate in all activities and a competitive desire to improve skill levels and fitness.

Life Saving Society Courses
(A minimum of 6 registrants are required to run Lifesaving courses.
Classes will take place at MUN pool. No classes on Regatta Day.)
Bronze Star
Course content includes land spinals, submerged victim recovery, rescue drills, lifesaving entries and fitness training. It is recommended that the Canadian Lifesaving Manual be purchased when registering for this course. The requirement is a bronze level swimming ability; upon completion participants receive the Bronze Star and CPR Level A Awards.
Bronze Medallion (ages 13 years +)
This Lifesaving award opens the door to the world of aquatic leadership including lifeguarding and teaching. This is the first required course of the lifesaving society. Upon completion, participants will be awarded the Bronze Medallion and CPR Level C. The Canadian Lifesaving Manual is required. Participate must be 13 years of age or older or have completed the Bronze Star program.
Bronze Cross (ages 13 years +)
This is the second required level of the Lifesaving Society Courses. The Canadian Lifesaving Manual is required. Participant must have received Bronze Medallion Award within 5 years of registering for Bronze Cross and CPR Level C.
National Lifeguard Service (age 16 years +)
This award certifies you to become a lifeguard and is the basic requirement to work as a lifeguard. It is the only nationally recognized lifeguarding award in Canada. The Alert Manual is required for this course. Participants must be 16 years of age and hold a current Bronze Cross and CPR Level C within 5 years of registering for National Lifeguard Services.
Please note that the Lifesaving Society runs all course exams. Exams usually take place on the last day of the course and participants must have Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care before exam. Depending on availability of examiners supplied by the Life Saving Society, exams may have to be rescheduled. The Works has no control over examiners and apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
